CHENNAI: As many as 2,780 families living in Sivanthipuram village near Ambasamudram in Tirunelveli district got their house pattas after a 45-year-long struggle, thanks to the expeditious steps taken by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.Seven families from the village received the house pattas from the CM in person at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Sivanthipuram village was acquired by the TN government in 1965 as per the Inams Abolition Act and Ryotwari pattas were issued to those who were in possession of wet and dry lands then.Later, in 1987, the government did a Natham survey and prepared pattas for 2,780 houses. Following this, litigations were filed before many courts and the government challenged the verdicts delivered against it in these cases in 2005, before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. The case, which was pending for a long time, was taken up for hearing due to the speedy steps taken by the AIADMK government. After three hearings, the court delivered its verdict in favour of the State government on July 1 this year. Following the verdict, the CM ordered issuance of pattas to the 2,780 families.
