5 things that have changed since Kajol last appeared in a Bollywood film
Kajol will make her comeback in a women centric film which will be producedby her husband, actor Ajay Devgn.

There are few actresses who have dared to leave everything at the peak of their career to run a household in the recent times. But Kajol is one of them. Having always given more priority to her children and home, Kajol in the past has refused several meaty roles in blockbuster films. But the charming actress seemed to never had any qualms of letting movie offers go.

While she has been in the public eye all through- thanks to various endorsement deals- its been a while since we have seen the charming actress on screen. Her last film 'We Are Family' released in 2010 and while she outshined in her role as the terminally ill mother of three- the film, a remake of Hollywood hit 'Step Mom' failed to make a mark at the Box Office. But in spite of flops and four year sabbatical, Kajol's comeback news has been greeted with much aplomb.

Kajol will make her comeback in a women centric film which will be producedby her husband, actor Ajay Devgn. Now in the past four years, ever since Kajol has left Bollywood, a lot has changed. New faces rule the Box Office, films are only called blockbusters if they earn Rs 100 crores and not all women centric films work.

Younger actors are willing to experiment

From Alia Bhatt to Parineeti Chopra to Deepika Padukone- actresses now do not shy away from changing their looks and experimenting with various kind of films. Newbies like Alia Bhatt and Parineeti Chopra have already won laurels for their performances in films like 'Highway' and 'Ishaqzaade' respectively. The little older lot like Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra are at equal ease in artsy roles like they are in hard core commercial pot boilers. When Kajol makes her comeback, she will have to step out of her comfort zone to shine through.

Bolder scripts, bolder characters

Usual family dramas have less takers in this day and age. Also actresses like Sridevi, Tabu, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla are all stepping out of their comfort zone and attempting dramatically different roles. Juhi has played a negative character in 'Gulaab Gang', Sridevi an under confident housewife in 'English Vinglish' and Madhuri stunned everyone with her lesbian act in 'Dedh Ishqiya'- all these roles aren't the most conventional roles for comebacks and yet these actresses have taken the brave step and delivered their best. Meanwhile, Kajol has mostly stuck to her comfort zone. She has worked with her close associates in the industry who have given her tailor made roles, which were perhaps 'safe' choices.

Content is the king

Even Salman Khan, an actor whose Rs 100 crore films are criticized for the lack of quality content, has stated that the biggest reason a film works is because of its good content. When Kajol ruled the Box Office, back in the 1990s, the film industry was star driven. Big banners and big stars were bound to do well the Box Office. Not any more. Audience now craves for good content and appreciates the extra effort that the director puts in for details. Whatever script Kajol finally chooses, it will have to have a strong script to make the film work.

Age of small cinema

Gone are the days that only a handful of directors and banners ruled Bollywood. In today's time, newer talents are encouraged to tell their story. The budget may not be very high, but these films with new directors seemed to satiate the appetite of the cine goers. Films like 'Vicky Donor', 'Queen' and 'Udaan' have got thumbs up from the critics as well as the masses. Kajol's last outing at the movies was produced by her good friend Karan Johar- a big budget film. In her new stint, the actress should be more willing to work with newer directors.

Rise of the character artist

While films always bank upon a formidable lead actor, there are character actors who manage to steal the limelight as well. Sometimes, they get more prominence that the lead actors. In fact more and more actors are now willing to play character roles. In any case, Kajol will not get to play the quintessential heroine anymore- but she can surely play a strong author backed character role.
