Amritsar: As part of its plan of making quality education available to needy intelligent students, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday announced of opening six more meritorious schools in the state.
With the opening of new schools, the total number of institutions would rise to 12 which would mean that there would be a school for every 2 districts of Punjab, he said.
Talking to the children in the meritorious school, Badal said, "Meritorious School Project is the project closest to my
heart".
The CM said he hopes that due to the availability of meritorious schools there would be no financial hitch in the academic pursuits of intelligent students from weaker economic background as accommodation, education, food and other facilities are extended to the students absolutely free of cost.
Badal took a serious note of irregular power supply in the school and ordered immediate installing of a new grid for
hotline to the school.
He also directed the officials to connect the power supply of the school to two feeders till the installation of the new
grid.
He also conceded to the request of the students to appoint more class four employees in the school. He said that it gives him immense pleasure to see that girl students are as keen to pursue higher studies as boys and exhorted teachers to pursue teaching as a mission and not a job.
Interacting with the students regarding their hobbies and future pursuits, Badal took upon the opportunity to motivate the students towards perseverance and work hard.
Later, Badal visited the War Heroes Memorial and new jail complex comping up in Fatahpur.
He took stock of the on the going construction work and directed the officials to put the project on fast track. He was informed that major work of this Rs 130 crore project has been accomplished and the project would see the light of the day by December.
