Tension prevailed at the Secretariat on Wednesday when six student activists of the Telangana Jagruthi entered the high security Secretariat premises and began raising slogans against the chief minister in front of his office at the C block.
Caught unawares, the police quickly arrested the protestors even as they put up a brief resistance. The activists had individually obtained entry passes and entered the Secretariat. Minutes later, all of them gathered in front of the C block and began raising slogans against chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy for his remarks on the Telangana statehood.
Soon, security personnel swung into action and tried to take the protestors into custody, amid their fierce resistance. More policemen rushed inside the premises and succeeded in taking the protestors into custody. Later, they were shifted to the Saifabad police station.
'They had obtained passes to meet officials in connection with fee reimbursement but began raising slogans,' a police official said.
Kiran Reddy had said that the fate of Telangana statehood would be decided by the majority of the people of Andhra Pradesh. He made the remarks during his Indiramma Baata tour of Krishna district on Wednesday.
