TIRUCHY: About 60 per cent of the candidates who qualified in the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) have registered for counselling, Sandeep Sancheti, chairman of Central Counselling Board (CCB), said on Thursday. He said a total of 2,09,744 lakh students took up the AIEEE examination across the country, for 34,000 seats. A total of 24,490 students took up the AIEEE exam from Tamil Nadu.Out of the 9,600 candidates, identified as qualified, 5,400 have registered for counselling, he said.Sandeep Sancheti, who is also the Director for NIT-Surathkal and Director In-Charge for NIT-Tiruchy, gave a clear picture about the new features that have been included by CCB, for online counselling.Though online counselling was introduced a couple of years ago, efforts are taken every year to modify, improve andstrengthen the process, he said. A special provision to correct erraneous entries made by the candidate with regard to state of eligibility and category, improvised process of counselling (entry/exit) and choice filling, inclusion of a spot round, additional reporting and help centres, electronic fee payment were some of the salient features.The other features included video or power point-based training and demo for online registration and choice filling,brochures, score cards, SMS alert and increase in the number of seats and Colleges, he said.Explaining the features in detail, he said online registration was open to all candidates eligible for central counselling.The seat allotment is based on the All India Rank (AIR) scored by the candidate. All the registered candidates can fill their choice of branches and institutes and lock their choice in the order of priority. And with the inclusion of the new feature in CCB, a candidate can make online choice modification and lock them again.If a candidate is not satisfied with the allotted seat even after the third round, the candidate can very well surrender the allotted seat and would be eligible for further rounds. Also, a candidate can cancel the allotted seat at any point of time and can claim refund. The candidate who had been allotted the seat can pay the initial fee either through demand draft or throught electronic mode.Brochures with complete details, right from online registration till getting admissions to the allotted institute have also been distributed.
