KOCHI: The Motor vehicle strike on Monday is a blessing in disguise for the Kochi Corporation as far as road repair work is concerned. “This is an opportunity for doing road work smoothly and the weather is also congenial,” said the chairperson of the Works Standing Committee. She added that the day will be utilised mainly to finish patch work on major roads. “The only nagging question is regarding the number of workers who would turn up,” she said. However, all do not agree with this view as there is speculation regarding the practicality of the idea. “Working on a hartal day is not as easy as it sounds,” opined a road construction contractor. “Most of the workers are from the city outskirts and hence won’t be able to reach the work site. Even if a sufficient number of people turn up, there is no guarantee that the organisers of the strike will allow the work to progress,” he said. “Moreover, we can never know what kind of weather is in store,” he said.
