HYDERABAD: In what is being seen as a direct fallout of the arrest of former journalist T Sunil Reddy in a forgery case, the State government on Friday transferred senior IPS officer Umesh Kumar to the loopline posting as chairman of the Godavari Valley Development Authority.Umesh Kumar’s name has cropped up in the case in which Sunil Reddy also allegedly passed on certain documents pertaining to DGP V Dinesh Reddy’s wife to an IPS officer.Umesh Kumar, an officer of 1977 batch was working as Director General, Anti-Corruption Bureau.He is senior to Dinesh Reddy in the 1977 batch.Sources said that after Dinesh Reddy brought the matter to the notice of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Umesh Kumar met the latter and explained his side of the story.However, the Chief Minister is understood to have expressed his displeasure over the entire episode stating that it brought disrepute to the police department.It all started after the arrest of Sunil Reddy, a consultant with Sricity SEZ, on charges of forging an MP, MA Khan’s signature and sending a petition to the Union Home Secretary.In the letter, it was stated that representations were received from the All India Banjara Seva Samithi demanding that an inquiry be ordered into how Dinesh Reddy’s wife bought huge tracts of land.After shunting out Umesh Kumar, the Government appointed D Boobathi Babu as DG, ACB.Another IPS officer, TP Das has been posted as DG, Special Protection Force in the place of Boobathi Babu.Meanwhile, Sunil Reddy was sent to two-day CID custody.
