BANGALORE: Leader of Opposition in Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah poohpoohed senior BJP leader L K Advani for his nation-wide campaign against corruption, Jan Chethna Yathra, and said that he must advise the D V Sadananda Gowdaled government to seek a fresh mandate from the public as it had forefeited the right to remain in power.Addressing the media thus here on Wednesday, he averred that this was because many state ministers are facing corruption charges and are making a beeline for jail.Home Minister R Ashok, against whom an FIR has been filed by the Lokayukta Police in connection with illegal denotification of land, came in for special criticism; Siddaramaiah questioned the chief minister’s morality by not seeking his resignation. “How can one expect the police to investigate against the home minister in a free and fair manner?” he asked. Siddaramaiah chastised the government for its refusal to convene a session of the state legislature despite the looming drought and power crisis, adding that “the government is duty-bound to do so”. “Any failure on this front tantamounts to disrespect to the Constitution,” he said. Pointing out that the legislature session was held for a mere 22 days, which, he said was a new low, he claimed that this was reflective of the state government’s “betrayal of the public mandate”. He demanded a white paper on drought relief works taken up by the government. “Farmers in acute droughthit areas have already started selling cattle to abattoirs.
