New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and former Union home minister LK Advani on Monday ripped apart the enabling US Act on the Indo-US nuclear deal, saying India’s nuclear swaraj is at stake and alleging that the UPA Government was out to mortgage India’s foreign policy to US.

Advani claimed that the Congress party is “isolated on nuclear deal” as it lacks national consensus and even the top nuclear scientists of the country have no consensus on the nuclear deal.

Taking part in a debate on the nuclear deal in Lok Sabha, Opposition Leader L K Advani also pointed out that there is “no consensus even within UPA on the nuclear deal”.

“The primary aim of the Hyde Act is to cap, roll back and eliminate India’s nuclear weapons programme,” Advani said, adding the Hyde Act equated India with Pakistan.

He said the "nuclear deal brings India into NPT through the back door and the deal will stop further nuclear tests by India."

Advani also said that the Hyde Act equates India with Pakistan.

US President George Bush is expected to sign the nuke deal into law on Monday evening.

The US Congress overwhelmingly approved the bill on December 9.
