After earning a whopping Rs 1162 Cr from scrap disposal and clearing 355 lakh square feet of office space in three earlier cleanliness campaigns in past years, the Narendra Modi government will embark on a one-month-long ‘Special Campaign 4.0’ from October 2 in over 4 lakh government offices across the country and overseas Indian missions.
Directives have been issued in this regard. The Rs 1162 Cr earning figure is significant, as it is double that of the budget of the Chandrayan-3 mission cost which was about Rs 600 Cr. In the last three campaigns held in the month of October in 2021, 2022 and 2023, government officers collectively cleared about 355 lakh square feet of office space and put it in productive usage.
“Revenue of about Rs 1162 Cr earned from scrap disposal and 96.1 lakh files were weeded out or closed…the government plans to conduct a bigger campaign this year,” says the latest government directive to all ministries.
The Special Campaign 4.0 will cover all offices of the Ministries and Departments of the Government of India, their attached/subordinate offices, PSUs, and autonomous organizations. It aims at “saturation of swachhata” in all offices by improving cleanliness and enhancing the experience of the common public with government offices as well as enhancing workplace experience.
“The focus of the campaign this year will be field/outstation offices responsible for service delivery or giving public interface,” the directives says. The scrap to be disposed of would include furniture, stationary, e-waste, office vehicles etc. The Cabinet Secretary in a letter has asked all secretaries to show their personal involvement and leadership for the success of the campaign in the month of October.
