HYDERABAD: Is there a more breathtaking sight than that of eleven hundred pounds of raw muscles with flared nostrils and mane swept by the breeze, tearing through the air at a regal gallop and a proud polo player atop him, beaming with pride? Want to witness this exciting experience, the king of games which is also the game of the kings will start off with an all new season in the city.The all new Hyderabad Polo Season 2011, which is set to begin in the first week of September, definitely has more to offer.Polo has been gaining popularity in Hyderabad and with the aim of promoting the game in the southern peninsula, Bison Riding and Polo Institute has organised the Hyderabad Polo Season 2011.At a curtain raiser event held in the city, Major General Amit Sharma, general officer commanding briefed the media about the Polo season, which will start from September 3.The season will see three tournaments, which include the Prince of Berar Cup, a four goal tournamnent from September 3-5, the Chief Minister's Trophy, a six goal tournament will be played from September 7-11 and the Army Commander's trophy, an eight goal tournament between September 13-17.As the name suggests, the Chief Minister's trophy will have Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Kirna Kumar Reddy as the chief guest.The other highlights of the event include the introduction of other equine sports like show jumping, tent pegging and dressage. There will also be a colourful extravaganza of numerous side events planned alongside the polom atches.They inlcude, hang gliding, para motor display, military band display, martial art display and a cultural program by AP Tourism Troupe.Another very unique festure of the season is that for the very first time, the Andhra Pradesh (AP) Police will also be participating in this event.Apart from AP Police, Hyderabad Polo Riding Club (HPRI), Armoured Corps Centre and School, National Cadet Corps, National Defence Academy, President's Bodyguards, 61 Cavalry, Remound Veterinary Corps, Artillery, navy and the Army Service Corps will also be a part of this event.Many schoolchildren will be invited for various matches to inculcate in them the Polo spirit and to bring about an interest of the sport in them.
