Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh is facing a severe power crisis these days. The state is running short of more than 2,200 megawatts.
Looking to the situation, the Government has ordered a one-day power shutdown for all the industries and four hours of daily power cut for domestic users.
“Four hundred MW of electricity, which is bought from outside is available at a cost Rs6 per unit. But, during the peak hours the electricity board uses NAFTA, which costs Rs12 per unit. This is sold at a price of Rs3.75 to industries, which is definitely a big loss,” said Mohammad Ali Shabber Minister for Power.
There are reports that this ordered one-day power shutdown for industries could extend to two days now.
Though, initially the industries appreciated the scheduled one-day power cut, the proposed two days shutdown came as a shock for them.
“This two-day power shut down will be disastrous for us,” says Shekhar Agarwal, Vice President Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI).
The industries across the nation are already struggling to meet the production targets. It is estimated that power cuts have brought down the production of the cement, steel, ceramic and chemical industries in the city by around 30 per cent and it is said to further come down with the increase in power cuts.
