HYDERABAD: The power supply position in the state continues to be precarious. As against the present demand for 273 million units (MU) per day, the AP Discoms could supply 231 MU only. The deficit of 42 MU is being managed by imposing power cut to domestic, industrial and farm sectors. The APTransco had purchased 17.69 MU from different sources at a cost of Rs. 7.87 crore. Of the total supply of 231 MU, APGenco’s thermal units are providing 79 MU and hydel units 28 MU to the grid. It is trying to overcome coal shortage by getting additional rakes from Mahanadi Coalfields and Western Coalfields. It is also importing 1 lakh MT of coal to meet the shortage caused by Singareni miners’ strike.The 210 MW VTPS-5 of APGenco is shutdown due to coal shortage. Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant (500 MW) is also closed. The power generation of the coal-based stations has been affected to an extent of 470 MW. Power generation in NTPC Ramagundam and Simhadri units has been hit. These two stations are running at 75 per cent and 90 per cent of PLF respectively. Additional power generation of around 320 MW with RLNG was stopped from Saturday.
