Army Chief's move unfortunate: Defence Ministry
Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju said it's not a healthy precedent for both the Ministry and the forces.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence has reacted for the first time since the Army Chief Gen VK Singh dragged the government to court on the age crisis, calling it unfortunate.

In an indication that the government is all set to counter the General's move, the Minister of State for Defence Pallam Raju said that this was an unhealthy precedent and did not bode well both for the government and the Armed forces.

"Army Chief going to court over age issue is unfortunate. It is a very sensitive issue and not a healthy precedent for both the Ministry and the forces,"Pallam Raju said.

The government is keeping a close eye on the Supreme Court that is scheduled to hear a PIL filed by ex-servicemen on Friday. It has already filed a caveat in the court saying it would like to be heard in the matter.

In the latest move to take on Army Chief, the Ministry of Defence has prepared a list of army commanders who could succeed him. According to reports, the list has even been sent by the ministry to the Prime Minister's Office.

However, Defence Minister AK Antony has refused to comment on the Army Chief Age issue.

What's your reaction?
