Well-known artist Kapu Rajaiah (87) passed away in Siddipet on Monday due to brief illness.
Born in 1925 in Siddipet, Rajaiah did his diploma at Government School of Art, Hyderabad.
He work was represented in exhibitions in Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Rumania,Bulgaria, Australia, Havana, Cuba, Mexico, London and Seychelles.
Kapu Rajaiah is known for revolutionary changes in modern Indian art.
He made an imprint for introducing folklore and rural traditions of art into Indian modern art.
His paintings speak of men and women of varied communities characteristic of Telangana villages.
His awards include a national award by Lalit Kala Akademi, Kala Vibhushana by AIFACS, New Delhi and many more.
He also received an honorary doctorate from JNTU, Hyderabad.
In his condolence message TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao said Rajaiah's death was great loss to artist world.
"I share a special bond with Rajaiah and he was my Atmeeya Bandhuvu," he said.
TRS leader and MLA T Hareesh Rao, TNGO president G Devi Prasad Rao also mourned Rajaiah and conveyed their sympathies to the bereaved family.
