New Delhi: The body of the 19-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh who was allegedly beaten to death in Delhi was flown to his home in Itanagar.

However, in the national capital the supporters of Nido Taniam continued to protest over his death. Students congregated at Jantar Mantar on Sunday, a day after some Northeast students called off their strike in Lajpat Nagar following reassurances from the Delhi Police that action would be taken against the guilty.

Earlier in the day, the BJP workers also held a protest and demanded immediate action in the matter. A delegation from the Northeast had also met BJP leader Harsh Vardhan asking for support. The party had accused the Delhi government of apathy, saying they've not even sent a representative to meet the boy's family.

Nido Taniam, the son of a Congress MLA in Arunachal Pradesh, was found dead inside his room on Thursday. He had allegedly been beaten up by workers at a sweet shop in Lajpat Nagar on Wednesday after he broke a window pane there for allegedly being mocked over his hair.

While police sources said the officials helped Nido talk to his mother in Arunachal Pradesh and got him in touch with local guardians and even claimed he was fine as he left for home, the victim's friends said that after the police dropped him at the sweet shop he was again beaten up by the shopkeeper with whom he had a heated argument and a scuffle.

However, Delhi Police rebutted reports that it dropped the young Arunachal student back at the sweet shop and said that they handed over Nido Taniam to his uncle.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of the victim is awaited.
