As Srinagar will vote on May 13 in the Lok Sabha elections, union home secretary Ajay Bhalla and other top security and intelligence officials will be visiting the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
According to sources, Bhalla will review the security preparations for the voting day and is also likely to assess the readiness for the Amarnath Yatra during a series of meetings.
He will also hold multiple meetings with security forces, J&K police, and administration, where the director general of police, the CRPF chief, and other top officials will brief him about the security situation in the union territory.
Various forces and the J&K police have prepared presentations to brief the top home ministry official about the security preparedness for May 13. All senior officials have been deployed on the ground, and they have been given charge of security in different districts.
Tense areas have deployments of different forces along with J&K police, with reinforcement in case of any attack. Sources have confirmed that all ground commanders have been asked to keep a check on terrorist movements, especially in the Jammu area, which recently saw an attack on Indian Air Force personnel this month.
Additionally, there was an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists in the Sinai Top area of Poonch on Friday. Officials suspect that this is the same group that targeted an air force convoy last Saturday.
The Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency will go to polls on Monday, May 13, followed by the Baramulla and Anantnag-Rajouri seats on May 20 and May 25, respectively. The votes will be counted on June 4.
