New Delhi: Tainted Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi has been snubbed by both President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Kalmadi was kept out of felicitation function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday morning where Asian Games medal winners were feted by the President.
Minister of State for Sports Prateek Patil was also not invited to the function. He is attending Pune marathon along with Kalmadi.
The Prime Minister will felicitate the medal winners at a function in the evening. Kalmadi has not been invited there as well.
Kalmadi had earlier been left out of Congress President Sonia Gandhi's function after the Commonwealth Games.
Following the snubs the message for Kalmadi is very clear. He was not invited for the ceremony and it was also a face saver both for Government and Congress because Kalmadi’s close aides are under the scanner for corruption in Commonwealth Games.
They have already claimed that Kalmadi was also involved in the scam. So his absence from Rashtrapati Bhavan and exclusion from the ceremony to felicitate Asian Games medallists is a way of Congress telling him that since he is under the scanner so he cannot be a part of the establishment..
