KOCHI: The Department of Atomic Energy has contributed immensely to science and technology, over the past 50 years, but its activities have not reached the public to the extent they should have, said S S Bajaj, Chairman, National Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, (AERB).He was addressing a two-day seminar on ‘Societal benefits of radioisotopes and radiation technology’, at Sacred Heart College on Wednesday. Citing the example of fire, he said that atomic energy was a powerful source of inexhaustible energy, and like fire, it can be put to excellent use, if regulated properly. An awareness programme and an exhibition are also being held as part of the seminar. Cusat Vice-Chancellor Ramachandran Thekkedath presided over the function.The seminar is being held in association with the National Association for Application of Radioisotopes and Radiation in Industry, (NAARRI), Mumbai.The seminar will conclude on Thursday and the exhibition, on Friday.
