Yuki is the lone Indian to win a junior title at the Australian Open.

New Delhi: Yuki Bhambri on Saturday won the Australian Open boys singles title defeating Alexandros-Ferdinandos Georgoudas of Germany in straight sets.

Top seed Yuki swept aside unseeded Georgousdas 6-3 6-1 in 57 minutes to pocket his first Grand Slam singles title.

Yuki's dominance in the match was visible from the fact that he hit 29 winners as compared to his opponent's 21. He also converted four out of the seven break points and didn't provide a single window of opportunity to the German to break his serve.

Yuki, partnering Chinese Taipei's Liang-Chi Huang, also made it to the semi-finals of the boys doubles event but were shocked on Friday by Russian-Japanese pair of Mikhal Biryukov and Yasutaka Uchiyama 3-6 1-6.

Yuki came into the Australian Open as the top seed. He is the only Indian to win a Junior Grand Slam after Leander Paes won the Wimbledon in 1990 and the US Open in 1991.

Ramesh Krishnan was the first Indian to win junior titles at French Open and Wimbledon.

This win makes Yuki the only Indian to win a junior title at the Australian Open.

How he got there

In the juniors event, top seed Bhambri staved off the stiff challenge posed by French seventh seed Adrien Puget to enter the boys' singles final.

The Indian beat his rival 6-4 6-4 after a fierce battle that lasted over an hour.
