KOCHI:  Prof M K Sanu, who bagged the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for  the book, ‘Basheer: Ekantha Veedhiyile Avadhoothan’  on Wednesday, saidBasheer strode a different path. While Thakazhi, Kesavadev, S K Pottekkad and Ponkunnam Varkey explored social issues, Basheer works were social comments going deep into the nuances of life characters and revealing universal truths by drawing parallels between the lay and the who’s who in society. ‘’Even as he mingled with one and all, he always went into a lonely world of literature with which I relate to,’’ he said. It took him two years to write the book which was conceived long ago. Sanu published the biographies of P K Balakrishnan and Vyloppilly last year and many others before that. His study on Ayyappa Paniker is progressing. “Ayyappa Panicker’s style and content have interested me immensely, with each work blazing a trail in Malayalam literature. His ‘Kuruksehtram’ was path- breaking and controversial. His tomes of literature are so deep that the study itself is a challenge. ‘’I don’t know about the depth to which I can go,’’ he said. The award carries a cash prize of  Rs 1 lakh and a citation.  “I dedicate this award to my readers and my land,” he said.
