BANGALORE: The ineffective revenue collection mechanisms of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will soon become a matter of past. The Palike will identify properties by synchronisation of the Geographical Information System (GIS) along with old Property Identification Number (PID), and launch a new PID in all its 198 wards by mid of February. For the trial run of the new system, the Palike has selected five wards- Pattabhiramanagar, Byrasandra, Subramanyanagar, Basaveshwaranagar and Prakashnagar.
Announcing this at a press meet on Monday, BBMP commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda said, “The synchronisation of GIS and PID is completed. New PIDs will be integrated with Urban Property Ownership Records (UPOR) and all the further transactions, will be monitored by the Revenue department. This PID will become a permanent record after revalidation.”
Purpose of the system
1) Systematic property identification with integrated information about the property to be available on public domain.
2) To collect property tax based on the nature of the property
3) Demographical attribution
4) To divide properties
In the trail run, features of the system like how to find properties, how many were paying property tax, from how many should the property tax be collected, and other concerns will be taken up. The commissioner said there will be increase in the collection of tax amount after PIDs were given.
Mayor S Sharadamma said, “We are collecting tax from 8,50,000 property owners. So far we have identified 15,03,996 properties and the figure is expected to cross 16 lakhs after the procedure is completed in all the BBMP wards.”
Also, the commissioner clarified that the details on the public domain can only be accessed by the public and it cannot be changed and if there are any changes, it will be updated automatically. People can avail the details of the PID in the public domain where one can see the name of the property owner along with the map, both old and new PID numbers, application number, plot size, built-up area, vacant area, property tax updates etc.
