A man’s inability to recall his home address at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport led to his arrest after a subsequent investigation revealed serious discrepancies. The incident occurred when the individual, arriving on Turkish Airlines flight TK-716 from Istanbul, sought immigration clearance at counter number 20. When questioned by immigration officer Rambharos about his home address, the man, identified as Mohammad Sakib Hasan, faltered and appeared visibly distressed. Despite repeated questioning, he was unable to provide a clear answer.
Suspicious of the situation, the immigration officer began a detailed interrogation. During this process, Hasan admitted that his real name was Mohammad Sakib Hasan, but his passport bore the name Abu Hasan Sheikh. Further inquiry uncovered that Hasan, originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh, had obtained his Indian passport illegally.
The Bureau of Immigration confiscated his passport and forwarded it to the Kolkata Regional Passport Office. Additionally, a Bangladeshi passport was found on Hasan’s phone.
Following this revelation, the Bureau of Immigration transferred Hasan to the IGI Airport Police, who have charged him under sections 319 (2), 335, 336 (2), and 337 of the Indian Penal Code. The airport police formally arrested Hasan and initiated legal proceedings against him.
