Bank fraud: DMK civic chief held

VELLORE: Ranipet municipal chairman Krishnamoorthy alias Kutty of the DMK was arrested and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday in connection with a bank fraud case. Murugadas, the branch manager of Vijaya Bank, lodged a complaint against the municipal chairman at the Ranipet police station.According to Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (ADSP) Pattabi, Krishnamoorthy had availed an overdraft loan from the bank and since the repayment was irregular, the bank had sent a ‘recall notice’ recently. Krishnamoorthy had refused to receive the notice. Instead, the municipal chairman had reportedly gone to the bank and picked up a quarrel with the manager. On inquiry, the incident was found to be true.Accordingly Krishnamoorthy was arrested under sections 294B, 353 and 506 (criminal intimidation, preventing a public servant from discharging his duties and using unparliamentary language), of the IPC.  Krishnamoorthy was produced before the Ranipet court. The magistrate remanded him in judicial custody.
