BANGALORE: After Deepavali, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has to do extra work to clear the additional garbage collected because of the festival.A press release from BBMP stated that Bangalore which is spread over 800 square kilometer gets 3000 to 3500 tonnes of garbage everyday. During the festival, around 800 to 1000 tonnes of additional garbage was collected. It will take two to three days for Palike to clear the garbage.During Deepavali, at K R Market area around 175 tonnes of garbage was collected against 60 to 70 tonnes collected on a normal day.Also, garbage collection has raised by 25 to 30 per cent in major market areas including Jayanagar, Malleshwara, Yashwanthpura, K R Pura, Frazer Town, J P Nagar, Banashankari and Seshadripura, the press release stated.According to the release, at the BBMP scientific garbage dumping yards including Mavallipura, Mandur and Chimmasandra, additional 200 lorry loads were disposed. Palike has taken all the necessary measures to dispose the additional garbage collected, Commission Siddiah said in the release.
