New Delhi: The Bangladesh High Court on Monday suspended all elections, including the parliamentary polls in the country, for the next three months.
The order followed a writ petition filed by a voter of a Dhaka constituency, Mamunur Rashid.
The parliamentary polls were set for January 22 but had to be cancelled after a state of emergency was declared in the country on January 12 amid political tension.
The court also asked the Election Commission, which faces a possible major reorganisation in the coming days after Chief Election Commissioner M A Aziz resigned last week, why polls should not be held until voter identity cards and transparent ballot boxes were ready.
The controversial Chief Election Commissioner Aziz resigned amid allegations of bias against a major political alliance.
Aziz, who was on a three months leave, said he was stepping down to help create an environment acceptable to all political parties ahead of disputed parliamentary polls.
