Belgaum Mayor must reply to notice, says Suresh

BANGALORE: On the show-cause notice issued to Belgaum City Corporation (BCC), Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Sureshkumar said that the notice is being issued to a civic body and not to any individual. “The mayor has to reply to the show-cause notice,” he said.He added that BCC will be given two weeks time to explain to the notice and if the state government is not satisfied with the reply, the next step is to supersede the civic body under Section 100 of the KM Act. “There can be no superseding of a duly elected civic body without giving opportunity to hear them,” he added. Asked what if the BCC approaches the High Court and obtains stay to the order, the minister said, “We decided on pros and cons before deciding to issue the notice. The concern is that no civic body must violate law.”
