A hospital staff member in Howrah, West Bengal, has been arrested after a 14-year-old girl accused him of molestation. The incident occurred when the girl visited Howrah Sadar Hospital for a CT scan.
The girl alleges that the technician molested her, prompting her to flee the hospital in distress. “In a shocking incident at Howrah Hospital, staff members were caught red-handed attempting to commit a heinous act with a minor girl patient in the CT scan room,” state BJP leader Agnimitra Paul said in a post on X.

“This appalling incident reflects the dire state of women’s safety in hospitals across West Bengal. When even hospitals aren’t safe, where can our daughters, mothers, and sisters find security? Mamata Banerjee’s government has failed to protect women at every level. It’s time for a change,” she added.
Nurse Molested In Another Govt Hospital
In a separate incident, a man was arrested for allegedly molesting an on-duty nurse at a government-run hospital in Birbhum district. The nurse was attending to the man, who had been brought to the health center on a stretcher due to a high fever. The hospital authorities in Birbhum immediately contacted the police, who arrested the accused on the spot. A formal written complaint has been lodged with the Ilambazar Police Station, and a probe is underway.
These back-to-back incidents follow a recent case at the RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata, where a trainee doctor was raped and murdered. The handling of the trainee doctor’s case by the Kolkata Police and hospital administration faced significant criticism. BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying that she has done nothing to enforce the stringent rules in rapes and POCSO cases.
In West Bengal, the first day of September, 2024 starts with four reported cases of sexual assault:1. Nurse molested in llambazar Swasthya Kendra in Birbhum. “1. Nurse molested in llambazar Swasthya Kendra in Birbhum. A man named Sheikh Abbasuddin forcefully groped her private parts, while she was on night duty. Mamata Banerjee, instead of making working spaces safe for women, will blame the nurse for working at night. 2. Minor raped in Bhajanghat, Krishnaganj in Nadia. 3. In Madhyamgram, a TMC Panchayat member raped a minor, studying in class two. 4. Last night, a girl was sexually abused in the CT scanner room of Howrah Sadar Hospital,” Malviya said.
“Thanks to Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal is the most unsafe State for women. She has done nothing to enforce the stringent rules and establish Fast Track Courts to punishing accused in rapes and POCSO cases. She is an unmitigated disaster as a Chief Minister and must resign,” he added.
