BANGALORE: Of late, the party city has evolved into a land of many cultures and traditions because of the grandest festival in town — Bengaluru Habba. The ten-day festival started off as an idea initially that was aimed at breaking monotony from our everyday lives and transport us to a world of art. “The festival was born, when the Artist foundation in 2003 decided to have an event, which was one of its kind. The idea of having a festival for our city, which is beyond any religion or language and at the same time encourages performing arts in Bangalore was one of the factors that led to the birth of Bengaluru Habba,” says, Padmini one of the co-founders of this festival. The festival was inaugurated on January 13 and has attracted large numbers. Even though it is in its early stages, there has a been positive response and everyone in the city is seen enjoying the festival.Says Padmini, “We have several artistes performing in Bengaluru Habba this year. Being in the field of Bharatanatyam for over 25 years, I just love being a part of this event.”The festival will provide you with a heavy dose of art, cinema, music and other events. It is also living up to its expectations by introducing a variety of art forms apart from catering to every age group.Bengaluru Habba has all the right ingredients — from Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi and Mohiniattam dancers, Hindustani classical artistes, to head banging metal musicians. It stresses on cultural and performing arts and will gather all the renowned artistes from all over India to Namma Bengaluru. Also, you can indulge in a wide variety of films by eminent personalities like Girish Karnad, Kasaravalli, etc that will be screened at various locations throughout the city Apart from entertainment, the talented but unheard artistes too have a great platform to showcase their talent.Padmani says , “We do have a criteria to select the artistes who will be performing. However, we try to give each and every person an equal opportunity to be a part of this festival.”Bengaluru Habba has a lot more to offer in the remaining days.
