THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “Hollywood is here to repeat what the East India Company did to India in the colonial days,” actor Jaya Bachchan has warned the film fraternity. “It will plunder all sectors of Indian film industry,” she said while talking to mediapersons here before leaving the city. Jaya, the chief guest of International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) 2011, said, the term ‘Bollywood’ divides the film sector in India and added that it should be called as ‘Indian film industry,’ as the regional language cinema is an additional strength of Indian cinema. “Hollywood is trying to portray us in poor light, as it sees it through the eyes of the boy in the Oscar winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire,” Jaya said while expressing her dislike of the film. She revealed her desire to produce a film in Malayalam after the completion of a project in Gujarati. But as of now, no plans to act in Mollywood owing to her inability to speak the local tongue. “However, if someone comes with a good offer then you can see me on Malayalam screen,” she said in a lighter vein. Jaya had no regrets in any of her roles as all of them were done with her heart. Though she claimed herself as a good organiser, the former MP said she would never take up any directorial ventures. An alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) Pune, Jaya said “the film festivals are a treat to the viewers as well as part of education by opening up a wider world.” Jaya was vocal when talking about her days with FTII to a query by IFFK director Bina Paul herself. Jaya recollected how the days at FTII trained her as an actor and reiterated that the method of training will help the actors adapt to the modern techniques of cinema easily.Asked about the best actor in her star-studded Bachchan family, the grandmother pointed to the new-born daughter of Abhishek Bachchan and Aiswarya Rai, “as she would play all tricks to dupe all of us.” But Jaya left the much-awaited question about the baby’s name unanswered and let it to the baby’s father to announce.
