BANGALORE: The wait is almost over. BIFFES or the Bangalore International Film Festival is set to begin screenings from Thursday, December 15. The festival will be inaugurated at the Jnanajyothi Auditorium at 6 pm on Thursday.The Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda is scheduled to attend the festival along with Iranian filmmaker Dariush Mehrjui and actors Anant Nag and Om Puri. BIFFES will showcase 180 films from 40 countries across six venues in the city. The festival will be on till the December 22.‘Lucky’ from South Africa directed by Avie Luthra featuring city actor B Jayashree will be the opening film of the festival.“This festival has the support of the government and will further the cause of cinema and its professionals,” said Basavaraju, Secretary of Information and Kannada and Culture.Festival director Nagabharana added that the organisers were yet to receive a reply to their request to the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) for providing shuttle services for film goers. He however expressed confidence that BIFFES would live up to the standards of international film festivals.From Tuesday onwards, delegates can register at the office set up in the Information Department on Infantry Road.Fee for spot registration is Rs 500 for the entire festival.
