The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication had sent Amitabh Bachchan a notice for a hoarding in which the actor is seen smoking a cigar.

Panaji (Goa): Amitabh Bachchan has reportedly apologised for the controversial hoarding of the film Family which appeared in Panaji.

Members of the Panaji-based National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication had sent the actor a notice for violating the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.

General Secretary of the National Organisation of Tobacco Eradication, Shekhar Salkar said, "We had written a letter to Amitabh Bachchan objecting to the poster of the film Family. We received a letter from him on Tuesday explaining that he was not aware the still would be used to endorse the film. We will now pursue the case with the producers - Anchor Company and co-producers – DMS."

In the hoarding, Amitabh is shown with a cigar in his mouth. Anti-tobacco activists say that such hoardings promote smoking.

The hoarding came to notice on December 25 and was taken off on January 1 only when anti-tobacco activists pointed out that the posters violated anti-tobacco laws.
