The BJP would plan its future course of agitation based on the Supreme Court’s interim verdict on Cauvery water row, said Deputy Chief Minister and state BJP president K S Eshwarappa.
He was speaking after inaugurating the state executive committee meeting of BJP Yuva morcha here on Sunday.
“The state government has released water respecting the verdict of Supreme Court and words of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. A team of experts has been sent to study the issue in the Cauvery basin. By Monday afternoon, the SC is expected to deliver its interim verdict. Further course of agitation would be planned in the BJP leaders meeting scheduled in Bangalore on October 9,” he said.
He said that the Cauvery River Authority’s (CRA) decision had caused injustice to the state. “About 30 tmc feet of water is required for drinking and 159 tmc feet is needed for agriculture. When the state itself has 80 tmc ft water for its utility, how can it release water for Tamil Nadu?” he questioned.
According to Eshwarappa, Tamil Nadu now requires water for its standing crop and it wants to conserve water for next crop season too.
UPA must explain
Eshwarappa added that the Congress should clarify Robert Vadra, the son-in-law of party supremo Sonia Gandhi who had Rs 50 lakh worth property earlier now has a property of Rs 300 crore.
Eshwarappa added that BJP Yuva Morcha activists should not heed to the ongoing internal problems of the party and asserted that the national leaders of the party would look into the matter. State BJP Yuva Morcha president V Sunil Kumar said the morcha would organise state wide protest against Central government for one month.
“Congress Hathao, Desh Bachao campaign would be held from October 20 to November 20 and a state-level rally will be organised in Hubli on November 20,” he said.
