Peshawar (Pakistan): A bomb explosion near a Shia mosque in Peshawar, Pakistani killed at least 10 people, including the city’s police chief, and wounded 35 people, police said on Saturday night.
Most of the victims were police and municipal officials who were clearing the route for a procession of Shias in a crowded old quarter of Peshawar, police said.
The injured have been taken to Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital.
Pakistan had declared red alert following a suicide bombing at the Marriot Hotel in Islamabad, just ahead of the Indian High Commission's Republic Day celebration on Friday.
Pakistan has also formed a special team to probe into the bombing.
A suicide bomber on Friday tried to storm the hotel hours before a reception there by Indian High Commissioner Satyabrata Pal to mark the Republic Day, killing himself and a security guard and injuring seven others.
