Purulia: Bodies of two Maoists killed in an encounter with joint forces on Monday night were found in the deep forests of Ghatbera in Balarampur area of Purulia district on Tuesday.
IG, Western Range, Gangeswar Singh said the two were shot dead in the encounter which took place after the killing of two Trinamool Congress (TC) workers by the ultras on Monday.
Two joint force personnel were injured in the encounter and were being airlifted to Kolkata for treatment, he said.
Search is on in the forests to find if there were any more bodies as the Maoists were suspected to have fled to neighbouring Dalma Hills in Jharkhand after the encounter which lasted for over an hour.
Additional forces have been rushed to Ghatbera, where a police camp already exists, Singh said, adding no one has been arrested so far.
Meanwhile, post mortem of the bodies of Ajit Singh Sardar and Baku Singh Sardar - the father-son duo who were called out of their homes and killed by the extremists on Monday - has been completed and they were being taken to Kolkata, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will pay her respects to them.
A procession with the bodies would be taken out in the city by TC.
Banerjee has said that joint operations would be intensified against Maoists, whom she has described as "terrorists, murderers, jungle mafia and supari killers."
