New Delhi: The capital's police force was on its toes once again on Monday after a series of phone calls warning them of bombs at India Gate, Red Fort and a high-rise building in the heart of the city triggered panic and massive searches.
Police swung into action and rushed bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs to the historic monuments and the Income Tax office situated in Central Delhi after it received three calls within a span of 90 minutes after 1200 hrs (IST).
However, the special teams did not find any explosive substances and searches were called off after nearly two hours, senior police officials said.
Police is trying to trace the calls and has rounded up a couple of persons for questioning.
A string of hoax bomb calls, most of them pranks by minors, after the blasts in Mumbai have troubled the Delhi Police and led to searches at India Gate, Red Fort, AIIMS, Akshardham Temple, PVR Plaza, Satyam multiplex and Gurudwara Sis Ganj in the last ten days.
The police has also arrested several people for making such false calls. An 18-year-old youth was arrested in North-East Delhi for claiming that explosives had been planted at the Akshardham Temple, PVR Plaza and Gurudwara Sis Ganj while two school kids were picked up for reporting a bomb at AIIMS.
Two intermediate students were arrested by Uttaranchal police on Saturday and two teenagers were nabbed on Sunday for making hoax calls about bomb at the India Gate and Satyam theatre complex respectively.
