HYDERABAD: After confronting the representatives of Emaar group of companies about its tainted deal with the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), the officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) grilled the then APIIC managing director BP Acharya on Friday.The senior IAS officer was served a notice by the CBI recently.Senior Officials of the CBI confirmed that Acharya, now principal secretary (Home), was summoned to the CBI office at Sultan Bazar in the city. He was questioned for several hours to corroborate what the representatives of the Emaar had earlier disclosed to the CBI.It is learnt that Acharya was questioned repeatedly as to why the stake of the APIIC was brought down from the earlier 26 percent to less than 1 percent. The move caused huge loss to the corporation.However, Acharya maintained that he only followed the instructions of then YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s government.Besides Acharya, a senior official of the mines department was also questioned about the granting of mines contract favouring a few companies that were indirectly related to YSR Congress Party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. “The statements of various officials were recorded,” CBI joint director VV Lakshminarayana told reporters here on Friday. Representatives of nearly 20 companies, to whom notices were served by CBI, responded and disclosed documents and other information.
