KOCHI: The Ernakulam Central Police registered a case against 55 members of the Kerala Kudumbi Federation on Wednesday for obstructing the path of the High Court Chief Justice and causing hindrance to the police’s duty.The cases were registered after an enormous gathering of members of the Kudumbi community, running into tens of thousands, took to the streets against the govt’s decision not to include the community in the Scheduled Castes list. They also blocked a train at the Ernakulam Town Railway Station. As the march turned violent, the police had to resort to lathicharge against the protestors.Out of the 55 accused, the Police arrested eight people on the spot including Kerala Kudumbi Federation state secretary (Cherthala taluk) Sivan, state secretary (Paravur taluk) Venugopal, committee member P G Govindan, board member Santhosh Kumar, members Madhu K Krishnan, Rajesh, Sanoj and Soman. The arrests were made by Central SI Ananthalal and North SI Vijayashankar under the leadership of North CI B Rajan as per the instructions of City Police Commissioner M R Ajithkumar and Deputy Commissioner Gopalakrishnan Pillai. Meanwhile, officials, including two RPF personnel, two policemen and an official with the Kerala Armed Police were injured during the clash.
