Cauvery row: JD(S) youth wing launches padayatra

A padayatra was launched by JD(S) youth wing state vice-president Ashok Jairam from Silver Jubilee Park in Mandya to the Raj Bhavan against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

Cauvery River Protection Committee chairman and former MP G Made Gowda inaugurated the padayatra by garlanding the Sir M Visvesvaraya statue and beating drums.Jairam said they would submit a memorandum to Governor H R Bhardwaj on September 27

They would educate the public about the state’s right on Cauvery water and address gatherings in Maddur, Ramnagar, Kengeri and Bangalore.Some Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists were arrested when they tried to force their entry into the post office.

Meanwhile, Kadamba Kannada Sangha activists launched an agitation near Mandya railway station.

They urged the Union Ministers, MPs and MLAs to take a cautious decision on water sharing issue.

The cable operators of Mandya also participated and urged President Pranab Mukherjee to intervene. 

Some villagers blocked the busy roads with their cattle.

Some cine actors also participated in the stir at Silver Jubilee Park.

In Chamarajanagar, the Taluk Kannada Sangha and district Kannada organisations staged protests in Bhuvaneshwari Circle and in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Cauvery Hoorata Kriya Samiti, Kannada Sahitya Parishat and other Kannada organisations staged a protest in front of General Post Office and burnt copies of the PM’s directions to release water to Tamil Nadu.
