CBI probe sought into VUDA land scam

VISAKHAPATNAM: Demanding CBI probe into the lands scam in Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA), the leaders of four opposition parties including the TDP , BJP, CPI and Lok Satta on Friday visited Rishikonda, Cyber Valley, Sriram Properties, Ozone Valley and Madhurawada lands.The VUDA incurred losses to the tune of Rs 543 crore due to land scam following which the government directed the Vigilance and Enforcement officials to look into the issue. However, the opposition leaders have been expressing reservations over the efficacy of the probe for some time now.Lok Satta chief Jayaprakash Narayan alleged that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy did not initiate any action against the culprits just because the Congress leaders are involved in the scam.The offenders (officials) sold out VUDA lands worth crores, like those at Rishikonda, survey Nos. 34 and 35, for a song to their kin, he said and demanded the government suspend the vigilance officials besides recovering the lands.
