New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday registered preliminary enquiry into the mysterious death of Karnataka IAS officer DK Ravi, sources said.
The Karnataka government on April 6 had sent a fresh order for CBI probe in the death case after the agency returned the earlier one.
According to sources, while returning the order, the CBI had said that the scope of investigation cannot be decided by the state government. It is also said to have claimed that a time-bound investigation can only be ordered by High Court or the Supreme Court.
There were reports that Ravi might have committed suicide due to crisis in his personal life. According to his WhatsApp messages accessed by the police, Ravi was in love with his female colleague. "After you hear of my death, please come and see me, may be we will meet in another life," one of the messages allegedly said.
According to police reports, his female colleague and her husband had tried to counsel Ravi to give up his attempt at his one-sided love and move on with his life and career, the sources said.
Facing pressure from all quarters, the Karnataka government had handed over the probe into the case to CBI.
Ravi was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his flat in Bengaluru on March 16, with police suspecting it to be prima facie a case of suicide.
