New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the murder case of Delhi's Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajbir Singh.
The CBI has filed a case against the prime accused in the case, Vijay Bhardwaj who is a property dealer. A CBI team is in Gurgaon to carry out further investigation.
ACP Rajbir Singh was shot dead by Bhardwaj on March 24 in Gurgaon at about 2030 hrs IST.
Famous as an encounter specialist, Rajbir Singh, was credited with killing over 50 terrorists and criminals.
According to the police, the 48-year-old Singh was seated on a chair in Bhardwaj's office when the property dealer calmly walked up to him and fired, giving the officer no chance to react.
Bhardwaj fired three shots in quick succession. Two bullets tore through Singh's forehead while the third missed the police officer.
Singh, who otherwise had top security cover (Z plus category) due to threats from various terrorist organisations, had only one personal security officer (PSO) with him when he went to meet the property dealer.
Singh and Bhardwaj had shared a drink before exchanging heated arguments over a dispute involving property, police sources claim.
