Noida, Morena: Police have launched a massive operation in the Chambal region of Madhya Pradesh on suspicion that dacoit Jagjeevan Parihar's gang is holding the tree-year-old kidnapped son of Adobe India’s CEO.
"On the suspicion that Anant Gupta might be held hostage by Jagjeevan Parihar's gang, Noida and Etawa police contacted us," said Deputy Inspector General of Police (Chambal) D C Sagar.
Police teams have fanned out in the Chambal region, he told reporters. After five members of Parihar's gang were killed in a shootout with Etawa police, he has not entered Bhind district
Parihar’s gang kidnapped four villagers from the district a fortnight ago, officials said. Parihar carries a reward of Rs 5.25 lakh on his head and is wanted for several cases including those of murder, abduction, extortion and dacoity in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
Parihar has divided his gang of 16-20 members into two groups, and made his brother Paramjeet the head of one of them.
Anant Gupta was kidnapped outside his home in Noida’s affluent Sector 15 colony on Monday. "We are hopeful. We are following various leads," said Noida SSP Rajesh Kumar Singh Rathore.
Senior police officials refused to comment on their probe and a newspaper report that a ransom call had been made. The Times of India quoting unnamed sources involved in the probe reported on Monday that Anant’s family had been asked to pay Rs 2 crore for his release.
Two men on a motorcycle snatched Anant while he was waiting for a school bus outside his home along with the family’s domestic help.
The UP Police’s Special Task Force has set up six special operation groups to trace the boy. Teams were also despatched to various places on the basis of the clues provided by the maidservant and other domestic helps.
Anant’s father Naresh Gupta has requested the media not to create a hype.
