Corporation plan to protect green cover

KOCHI:  The corporation will take the initiative to convert the stretch from BTH to High Court Junction into a model road as suggested by journalist K M Roy. “Initially the road beautification project will be taken up on the stretch between BTH to the Guest House soon after the BM- tarring work is over,” said Mayor Tony Chammany. A spick and span model road sans ugly posters or banners and flanked by trees sporting dust-free leaves on either side and the medians is being planned.    Laws are needed to make Kochi more environment-friendly, said the Mayor. "Legislation on felling trees should be in place to prevent people from felling trees mindlessly. Environment protection is not about planting trees alone but about keeping the city pollution-free," he said.
