Taking a cue from the mega success in the webcasting initiative, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is going live in social networking sites like ‘Facebook’ for some time. As a Facebooker, the Chief Minister has a lot of visitors on the online network. His homepage has been getting tremendous response as there are regular updates on his activities. YouTube links on the Chief Minister’s Independence Day and Onam messages are available here. Some users have even started discussions on various public issues on the wall. The Chief Minister has shared some of his photographs also. More popular are a couple of other pages in the name of Oommen Chandy. “The eminent leader has devoted and is devoting all his time and energy during the last four decades for the well-being and development of Kerala,” says the page. Widely popular, so far over 17,970 people have liked the page. Links to follow his Twitter and YouTube accounts are also given. Interestingly, there are a couple of other pages in his name, which are launched by other users. “We are getting a lot of suggestions and opinions from various people who are frequent in Facebook. Similar forums help us know issues in a better way and improve the administration,” said Minister for Welfare of Backward Communities P K Jayalakshmi, who is another active Facebook user in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet.The Chief Minister’s novel initiative to webcast the functioning of his office has been a major success. It was about three months back that the 24x7 office of Oommen Chandy went live on the net.
