KOCHI: At a time when the Mullaperiyar issue has been creating ripples across the state, a bunch of students got together to share their concerns about the issue. The children’s meet was organised at Kottapuram Hindi School in Alangad gramapanchayat. Alangad village officer Tomi Sebastian inaugurated the children’s meet. The children who attended the meet said that though the issue is currently before the court, the Centre should take a decision to ask the two state governments to discuss the issue and find an amicable solution. A decision has been made to communicate the issues discussed at the children’s meet to the officials concerned.“With continuous tremors at various parts of the Idukki district, there is always a possibility of dam break. This will result in a major tragedy. The river being in Kerala or Tamil Nadu has got nothing to do with avoiding a possible water disaster,” the students pointed out.If the Mullaperiyar dam breaks, it would affect thousands of people staying in various districts. If in case, the Idukki dam also breaks along with Mullaperiyar that would affect the power generation for Kerala, they pointed out. BRC trainer K N Sunil Kumar welcomed the children’s meet on Mullaperiyar. Alangad gramapanchayat member P S Jagadeesan presided over.  Gramapanchayat development standing committee chairman A C Radhakrishnan, junior health inspector Muraleedharan T N, residents association secretary Shamsudeen, Jayalakshmi and children’s representative Amal Murali also spoke.
