CHENNAI: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Young Indians, Chennai Chapter organized a free Dental camp on Tuesday to commemorate the World No Tobacco Day. The camp was held at Katrambakkam, Keevalur, Pudupet and Samandarampet villages near Sriperumbudur. Dr Vinod Prem Anand MD, Healthcare Chair, Yi Chennai and Consultant Physician and Diabetologist said that tobacco use is one of the main risk factors for a number of chronic diseases, including cancer, lung diseases, and cardiovascular diseases. Despite the ban on tobacco in India, it is very common and prevalent to use tobacco products in the Country. Through continuous efforts, it is possible to eradicate this evil in our society. Yi will continue in its stand to fight against tobacco chewing.” The Yi dental camp was supported by a team of 20 experienced doctors and nurses who offered the villagers free dental check-ups for problems related to tobacco chewing, smoking cigarettes etc. Dental decay and early stages of cancer were diagnosed in villagers through this camp. They were also educated on the hazards of tobacco by showing pictures to the adults and adolescents.Young Indians (Yi) Chennai Chapter has been working on several social initiatives which have a larger impact on the society. The health camp organised today is one such initiative of Yi to create an awareness amongst public on problems caused by chewing tobacco on the occasion of World Heath Day. The World No Tobacco Day has been observed by Yi Chennai the third time this year. This camp was supported by CII Member Schwing Stetter India Pvt Ltd.
