CHENNAI: When Steve Jobs passed away, people waved iPads, iPods and other Apple devices to pay an illuminated tribute to the luminary. Chennai’s iMourners, however, chose to go with a more personal approach to bid adieu to the visionary. Over 100 Chennaiites penned messages in memory of Steve at an event held recently. These messages were collected and will be couriered to the Apple Headquarters. Hosted at Zara Tapas Bar, the tribute was organised by You and I Digital and quite aptly titled, iLove. Abhishek B Shah, co-founder of the company said, “We were overwhelmed by the response we got for this event, considering it was promoted for only two days on Twitter and Facebook.” What started with a candle light remembrance and a few moments of silence, was followed by some quiz questions on Jobs and Apple trivia, as well as a few videos for the audiences. This included the (in)famous Stanford graduation address that has been viewed by over 10 million people across the globe. Said a techie at the gathering, “Until I saw the video, I had no idea that Steve was a college drop-out like myself, and now, I’ve come to terms with this fact a lot better.” Another person in the audience shared, “I bought my first Apple Mac Pro the night he passed away, and when I heard the news, I broke down.” In fact, the initiative to have a tribute in the first place came as quite an unexpected coincidence of events. Abhishek explained, “My partners and I have always been huge fans of Steve Jobs. We thought of him as a magician.” After months of talking about going the digital route, the launch of You and I digital is finally set to take place on Thursday morning. “We read the news just before the pooja. So, this tribute was our way of saying thank you,” he added.
