Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy blamed the former politicians and officials for the city’s current problems like water scarcity and garbage disposal. He alleged that there was lack of co-ordination among civic agencies.
Speaking at a meeting with members of Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry on Friday, the Mayor said “If the former politicians had any concern for the city, Bangalore would not have been like this.” There are plenty of problems such as lack of drinking water, garbage disposal and other problems, especially after new wards were included in 2007. “It will take another 10 years to improve the conditions,” Murthy opined. The Mayor said that there was no co-ordination between BBMP and other civic bodies. “When we lay asphalt, BSNL, BESCOM or BWSSB authorities dig up the roads. As the Mayor, I do not have powers of president of a Zilla Panchayat. Our tenure is too short to undertake any developmental work,” he said. Explaining that BBMP had limitations, he said, “It takes too long to get government’s approval for projects.”
