The third and final day of chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy’s visit to the district, as a part of Indiramma Bata programme, ended abruptly on Thursday reportedly due to inclement weather.
A large number of people, mobilised for the chief minister’s programmes at Srisailam and Mahanandi, left for their homes. Kiran Kumar Reddy was scheduled to participate in public interaction programmes at Srisailam and Mahanandi.
However, after having darshan of Lord Mahanandeeswara at Mahanandi, he left for Nandyal and later flew to Hyderabad in a chopper cutting short his visit. Officials who announced cancellation of the programmes at Srisailam and Mahanandi attributed it to inclement weather. They came under fire from farmers and general public for announcing the cancellation of programmes in the eleventh hour.
“We waited for the chief minister unnecessarily, wasting our time,” fumed T Pullanna, a farmer from Uyyalavada village, who brought his bullocks for an exhibition at Mahanandi. Earlier, the chief minister’s day started with laying of the foundation stone for a housing colony at Dudyala road in Atmakur town. He inaugurated Indira Jala Prabha scheme at Krishnapuram village in Atmakur mandal and interacted with SHG members, discussing their savings and financial growth.
Later, he reached Atmakur agricultural marketyard, where he participated in two separate meetings with farmers and IKP women. Kiran Kumar Reddy visited Velugodu balancing reservoir and interacted with SHG women. Later, he reached Mahanadi, but cancelled all official programmes. He offered prayers to Lord Mahanadeeswara before leaving for Nandyal by road and then boarding a chopper for Hyderabad.
